SDZ/WDZ Technical Specialist
Engineer Safe & Effective Live-Fire Environments

Develop, validate, and document Surface Danger Zones (SDZ) and Weapon Danger Zones (WDZ)

Conduct risk analysis and support Composite Risk Management (CRM) processes, including DRAW

Ensure compliance with AR 385-63 and supporting standards
Design Expeditionary Range Solutions

Configure and deploy Expeditionary Range Package (ERP®) systems in austere environments

Support rapid setup and teardown of live-fire range capabilities

Required Experience & Capabilities

Experience with SDZ/WDZ development and range safety engineering
-
Strong understanding of military training ranges and live-fire operations

Proficiency in GIS tools (ArcGIS or equivalent)

Familiarity with RMTK or similar systems preferred

Knowledge of weapon systems and their operational effects

Ability to operate in austere, high-tempo environments

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

Range Enabler Support
Execute the Mission on the Ground
Range Enabler Support personnel are the backbone of RTG field operations—executing range setup, target integration, and live-fire support in dynamic training environments across the Pacific.
Support Exercise Planning & Execution

Assist in developing SDZ/WDZ packets using RMTK

Coordinate with planners and training units to support exercises
Manage Equipment & Deployment

Inventory, pack, and deploy ERP equipment

Prepare HAZMAT documentation and shipping requirements

Operate Target Systems

Geographic Information System (GIS) Operator

The GIS Operator develops and manages geospatial data and products that directly support training, range development, and operational planning across the Pacific theater.
